Modern teenagers are increasingly choosing unusual directions such as blogging, game development and esports, which sometimes puts parents in a difficult position. Ekaterina Bolotova, coordinator of the career guidance festival "Choice Day" from MAXIMUM Education, told Izvestia on June 28 how parents can accept a child's choice if it seems wrong.

According to her, it is important to respect the opinion of a minor and realize that his desire for independence is a sign of maturity.

"The child has an opinion, his own position and a desire for independence. This is not a threat to the authority of parents, but a confirmation that the teenager is already a person, and it is worth supporting," the expert said.

In addition, parents should value their children's experience, because skills that may seem useless today will become very relevant tomorrow.

It is also important to stay on the side of the teenager, even if his choice seems to be wrong, and not rush to criticize if you do not understand the topic yourself.

The phrase "And who will he work for later?" It's not an argument if you haven't read any of the material in your chosen field. It would be better to study different information from real experts in this field. Perhaps you will find it interesting yourself — or at least clearer why the child was captured by this," Bolotova said.

The specialist emphasized that if a parent wants to give advice, it is necessary to do so based on facts and arguments. An unconventional choice can be an opportunity for a teenager to find his place in the world of professions.

Natalia Novoselova, a career guidance counselor and co-founder of the Point B school of career choice, told Izvestia on May 24 that in the coming years there will be a high demand for IT specialists, engineers and representatives of scientific professions. According to her, programmers and other digital specialists remain traditionally popular among young people. Teenagers are particularly interested in applied and fundamental sciences.
