Shine with intelligence: demand for AI trainers in Russia has tripled

The demand for artificial intelligence trainers has increased in Russia, Izvestia has learned. Two years ago, such a field did not exist on the market, but over the past year, the number of vacancies with the keywords "AI coach" or "AI training" has almost tripled. This is no longer a classic IT specialty, but a synthesis of programming, linguistics and even psychology, experts say. According to them, in the coming years, companies will not only hire trainers, but also form their own teams of specialists in the "education" of neural networks.
How AI is trained
The profession of an AI trainer is one of the new ones on the market, but it is rapidly gaining popularity. This is no longer a classic IT specialty, but a synthesis of programming, linguistics, and even psychology. The rapid development of generative AI and the need to adapt it to specific business tasks have caused a sharp increase in demand for specialists in human-artificial intelligence interaction, Zurab Bely, head of Java development at Reksoft, told Izvestia. In Russia, such vacancies mostly appear at startups and large companies such as MTS and Yandex.
— The main responsibilities of AI trainers include analyzing complex topics, fact checking, evaluating and editing texts, as well as working with sources. Therefore, the profession of an AI coach and the development of AI in general can partially or completely replace some traditional specialties, such as copywriters, content managers, aspiring lawyers, and first-level technical support specialists," said Zurab Bely.
In his opinion, AI is not a "killer of professions", but rather a catalyst for their evolution, since it replaces routine work, while creating demand for new skills: instead of 10 copywriters, one AI coach can work, and instead of manually sorting resumes, an AI recruiter training specialist. In Russia, the demand for such specialists began to grow in 2023 after the adaptation of Western AI models by local companies.
— If you look at sites like, for example, hh.ru The number of vacancies with the keywords "AI coach" or "AI training" has approximately tripled in 2024. I think the market may grow two or three times by 2026-2027," said Zurab Bely.
According to him, it can be assumed that the demand for AI specialists in the first half of 2025 will be four to six times higher than in the same period a year earlier. At the beginning of 2025, the dynamics remained or even increased in comparison with 2024
Today, an AI coach needs to understand both the technical aspects and the subject area for which artificial intelligence is being trained, said Sergey Golitsyn, head of AI at T1 IT Holding. It's important to understand the basics of machine learning and have data skills, he said.
—Industrial engineering is particularly in demand today — the ability to correctly formulate queries for language models in order to get accurate and relevant answers," he said.
However, technical skills alone are not enough, the expert emphasized: an AI coach must be well versed in the field where AI is used, which allows not only to use data correctly, but also to formulate tasks so that the model learns effectively.
The Yandex press service told Izvestia that they have been developing this area for a long time. AI trainers are engaged in the creation and evaluation of texts on which neural networks are trained. For example, they write answers to questions on a variety of topics that are used as reference examples for training a neural network. They also rank the models' responses: they choose the best ones, mark incorrect ones, and help algorithms understand user requests more accurately, they noted.
At Sberbank, AI assistants are already helping in all business areas - investment, corporate and retail business, finance, risks, HR, marketing and other areas, the press service told Izvestia.
— GigaChat's neural network model has recently turned two years old, and we continue to train and train our AI in all areas. In particular, AI trainers create dialogues and training scenarios, write response examples and develop complex queries for optimal interaction with models, evaluate and adjust model responses, formulate training data and conduct fact—checking and edit tests," the press service added.
Will AI replace some professions
There are rapid changes in the labor market related to technological and socio-economic factors, including the spread of artificial intelligence technologies, said Dmitry Puchkov, Managing Director of Avito Work. In 2024 alone, the number of AI-related vacancies on the Avito Work platform has more than quadrupled, indicating a fundamental shift in business demands, the expert emphasized.
— In marketing, for example, there is a demand for specialists who can work with neural networks to generate content, analyze the audience and personalize communications. Companies are looking for a new type of marketers — those who can not only come up with creative concepts, but also effectively use tools like ChatGPT, Midjourney to create texts, images, and even videos," the expert explained.
If automation used to be associated with reducing routine positions, now it, on the contrary, creates demand for complex, interdisciplinary roles, Dmitry Puchkov added. For example, data engineers have already become indispensable players in the financial sector, retail, and logistics, turning arrays of unstructured information into ready-made business solutions.
The relevance of AI trainers today is explained by the fact that AI has ceased to be an experimental technology and has become part of business processes. At the same time, machine learning models themselves are not truly "smart" - they need constant adjustments, updating data and adapting to the real world, which is changing every second, says Ekaterina Edemskaya, an analytical engineer at Gazinformservice.
"Without the professional work of AI trainers, AI systems can quickly degrade or become a source of new threats, from personal data leaks to discriminatory solutions," the expert said.
AI trainers are beginning to displace professions based on standardized data processing, Ekaterina Edemskaya notes. These are manual content moderation specialists, call center operators, and junior consultants in areas where typical tasks can be automated.
Routine information verification, previously performed manually, is now partially or completely transferred to models trained and supervised by AI trainers. Over time, this profession will become a key filter between machine intelligence and human interests, responsible for the accuracy, correctness and safety of decisions made by AI, she added.
In the coming years, companies will not only hire trainers, but also form their own teams of specialists in the "education" of neural networks, says State Duma Deputy Anton Nemkin. This means that the demand for such hybrid professionals — with a technical base and humanitarian mindset — will only grow.
AI regulation is an increasingly urgent task: the issue of excluding the use of deepfakes for illegal purposes is already being discussed. These measures will be spelled out in the next draft law on combating fraud, which is already being worked out, the deputy concluded.
