The Russian car market took the sixth place in the ranking of the largest in Europe


The Russian car market, which took fifth place in the ranking among European countries in April, dropped to sixth place in May. This was reported on June 25 by the analytical agency Autostat, which studied the data of the European Association of Automobile Manufacturers (ACEA).
At the end of spring, Germany retained its leadership in the European car market, where 239.3 thousand cars were sold (+1.2% by May 2024). The United Kingdom came in second place (150.1 thousand units; +1.6%), followed by Italy (139.5 thousand units; -0.1%) and France (123.9 thousand units; -12.3%), and Spain closes the top five (112.8 thousand units; +18.6%).
In May 2025, 91.2 thousand new passenger cars were sold in Russia, which is 28.3% less than in the same month last year.
Analysts noted that none of the other European countries reached the mark of 50 thousand cars sold in the last month of spring. In total, 1.11 million passenger cars were sold in European countries in May (+1.9%). Volkswagen became the leader of the EU market, followed by Skoda, Toyota, BMW and Renault.
Yesterday it was reported that in the first five months of 2025, 10.5 thousand passenger cars were imported from Belarus to Russia, which is almost three times less than in January – May last year. BMW became the leader among the brands in terms of new car imports, while the most popular models were Mercedes-Benz G-class, BMW X5 and X7.
