The UK continues to strengthen its military forces by signing contracts for the purchase of fifth-generation F-35A fighter jets from the United States. These aircraft will provide the country with strategic flexibility. Igor Korotchenko, a military analyst and editor-in-chief of the National Defense magazine, stated this in an interview with Izvestia on June 25.

He noted that, taking into account the plans for rearmament, the UK plans to use multifunctional fighters as carriers of nuclear weapons. This decision is conditioned by the need to form a full-fledged aviation component of the country's nuclear forces.

"In this case, Britain will carry out these tasks, relying on its own technological potential in the field of creating and developing both free-fall nuclear bombs and, most likely, a cruise missile will be created. This is a serious factor, given that so far the UK has had only the naval component of its nuclear forces," Korotchenko stressed.

In addition, he said that with the commissioning of the F-35A, the kingdom will be able to conduct operations without direct dependence on the United States.

The military analyst also warned of possible consequences, noting that London's nuclear capabilities could create new challenges to international security.

On June 24, the United Kingdom government announced that the United Kingdom plans to purchase 12 new F-35A fighter jets capable of carrying nuclear weapons from the United States. The acquired equipment will be used as part of the NATO mission to create dual-use aircraft and strengthen the alliance's military deterrence capabilities.
