Anton Aleksenko, a captured militant of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), told how ordinary soldiers are deceived by the command and about their attempts to defect. The footage was distributed by the Russian Ministry of Defense on June 25.

According to Aleksenko, employees of the territorial recruitment center (TCC, an analogue of the military enlistment office in Ukraine) took him away when he was walking down the street.

"They just put me in a car and took me to one of the district offices of the shopping mall. I didn't get a medical checkup, but at some point I got documents that said that's it — now I'm going to serve. And they put me in a minibus with five other people, and they took us out," the prisoner said.

He stated that he tried to defect from the training ground where he was being trained.

"I went to dinner, took my bag with me. They found me, they brought me back, but they didn't tell anyone, because this is our zone, and we don't want to spoil the statistics. <...> The next day, like everyone else, I took the oath," the militant said.

The prisoner of war also stressed that among the command of the Ukrainian army and his colleagues, many had tattoos with Nazi symbols. In addition, Aleksenko said that the command sent the militants to the position without weapons and equipment.

"The instructors all told us that things are gradually getting better at the front. Well, it was worth it for someone to just pick up a banal phone in their free time and watch some news, <...> everyone understood that the reality was completely different," the prisoner added.

On June 12, Alexander Kokokha, a captured militant of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, spoke about the actions of the Shopping Center, which sends people to a war zone without their consent. He also noted that the losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces are much higher than reported in Ukraine.
