The BRICS member countries issued a joint statement on Tuesday, June 24, expressing "deep concern" over the worsening security situation in the Middle East following the US and Israeli military strikes on Iranian territory.

"We express our deep concern about the military attacks on the Islamic Republic of Iran since June 13, 2025, which constitute a violation of international law and the UN Charter, as well as the subsequent escalation of the security situation in the Middle East," the statement said on the association's website.

The BRICS countries called on the parties involved to use the existing channels of dialogue and diplomacy in order to de-escalate the situation.

"Nuclear safeguards, safety and security must always be respected, including in situations of armed conflict, in order to protect people and the environment from harm," they added.

The statement also stressed the need to create a nuclear-weapon-free zone in the Middle East.

Earlier in the day, US President Donald Trump announced the entry into force of an agreement related to a complete cease-fire between Israel and Iran. Iran later confirmed the truce. The President of the Islamic Republic, Masoud Peseshkian, assured that the Iranian side would not abandon the cease-fire if Israel did not violate its terms.
