At the former Hyundai plant in Russia, plans to assemble GAC cars were denied.


The assembly of Chinese GAC cars at the AGR Automobile Plant (formerly Hyundai) is not planned, the company has no such intentions. This was stated in the press service of the AGR company, TASS reports on June 23.
The fact that GAC cars are planned to be produced at the former Hyundai plant in St. Petersburg was reported earlier that day by the Chinese Cars portal. According to a source familiar with the certification process, the process of obtaining Vehicle Type Approval for three Russian—built GAC models is currently underway - the GS3 compact crossover, the GS8 large SUV and the M8 minivan.
Currently, the plant is producing cars of the Russian brand Solaris in full cycle mode. These are the renamed Hyundai and Kia models Creta and Solaris, as well as Rio and Rio X.
In March, Pavel Nikiforov, head of sales development at GAC Motor Russia, told Izvestia that GAC intends to launch production of cars in Russia, is negotiating with a number of local manufacturers and is in the process of discussing the site.
On March 28, it was reported that the St. Petersburg Automobile Plant AGR has produced 30 thousand cars of the Russian brand Solaris since the restart of the enterprise in February last year. The Solaris KRX has become an anniversary.
