The head of the military police was killed in an attempt to detain looters in the Kursk region.

The head of the military police, Alexei Zharov, with the call sign Zhara, died while trying to detain looters in the Sudzhansky district of the Kursk region. This was announced on June 23 by the acting head of the region, Alexander Khinshtein.

According to him, the deceased served in Korenevsky, and later in Glushkovsky and Sudzhansky districts of the region. Khinstein noted his help to the locals who remained in the border area and showed care and humanity even in the most difficult moments.

"His heroic deed is a vivid example of dedication and true patriotism. He courageously and selflessly served his Homeland until the last day," he wrote on the Telegram channel.

The acting head of the Kursk region also expressed the opinion that it was necessary to present the deceased to the award and offered condolences to his family and friends.

On June 7, Alexander Garkavenko, the head of the Goncharovsky rural settlement of the Sudzhansky district of the Kursk region, was killed in an attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the Belgorod region. According to Vyacheslav Gladkov, the governor of the Kursk region, he died on the spot after a targeted attack by Ukrainian militants on a car.
