Iranian-backed militia groups are preparing to launch attacks on US military bases in Syria and Iraq in response to the US military joining Israeli strikes. This was reported by The New York Times (NYT) on June 22.

"The US military and intelligence officials have detected signs that Iranian—backed militias are preparing to attack US bases in Iraq and possibly in Syria in response to US strikes on Iran," the newspaper said.

It is clarified that the Iraqi authorities are currently trying to dissuade the armed groups from launching retaliatory strikes.

On June 21, American leader Donald Trump announced that the US Armed Forces had attacked three Iranian nuclear facilities. On the same day, he threatened Tehran with new missile strikes if the conflict was not resolved.
