The head of the Federal Forestry Agency named the reasons for the difficult fire situation in Transbaikalia and Buryatia

The difficult fire situation in Transbaikalia and Buryatia has developed due to a combination of weather and human factors, said the head of the Federal Forestry Agency Ivan Advisers in an interview with Izvestia during the SPIEF-2025.

In addition to the hot weather, there is a lack of moisture after a snowy winter, experts say.

Spring in Transbaikalia and Buryatia turned out to be abnormally dry, there was no precipitation for a long time, the head of the Federal Forestry Agency noted. According to him, the main problems at the beginning of the fire season were focused in three districts of Transbaikalia and two districts of Buryatia.

"Of the 3 million hectares of the area covered by fire, more than 2.7 million were in Transbaikalia. And a fairly large area in Buryatia," Ivan Sovetnikov said.

He cited the human factor as another reason, when citizens grossly violate fire safety rules in forests.

"There was a case when we got a forest fire from the spawn of a diesel locomotive that was traveling along a railway along which there was no plowing," he shared.

Managerial mistakes in the regions also played a role, the head of the Federal Forestry Agency believes. However, final conclusions can be made at the end of the season, he said.
