The decision of the Iranian authorities to close the Strait of Hormuz would be a "terrible mistake" and would entail a response from the United States. This was announced on June 22 by the American Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

"This will be another terrible mistake, economic suicide for them. <...> It will hit the economies of other countries much harder than ours. This would be a massive escalation that would require a response not only from us, but also from other countries," he said in an interview with Fox News.

Iranian MP Ismail Kousari said on June 22 that the Iranian parliament considers it necessary to block the Strait of Hormuz after the US strikes on the Republic's nuclear facilities. Noting that the final decision will remain with the Supreme National Security Council of the country.
