Georgia may lose the chance to join the European Union (EU). The EU Ambassador to Tbilisi Pavel Gerchinsky told reporters on Saturday, June 21.

According to Gerchinsky, Georgia became a candidate for EU membership in 2023, but now the country's European integration has been suspended.

"It is a pity that Georgia may lose its historical chance to become a member of the European Union for a long time, moreover, democracy in Georgia is in danger," TASS quoted Gerchinsky as saying.

The Ambassador stressed that on June 23, at a meeting of the EU foreign ministers, diplomats may also discuss the issue of Georgia, namely disinformation directed against the European Union, the possibility of imposing sanctions and the establishment of a visa-free regime.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on June 12 that the EU was wary of the Georgian government and considered it a "beast." He noted seven percent economic growth and a reduction in government debt. Despite the fact that the "global liberals" tried to interfere in the country's politics in 2022, Georgia managed to maintain its government.
