President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has signed a decree appointing Gennady Shapovalov to the post of Commander of the Ground forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). The corresponding decree was published on the website of the head of state on June 19.

"Appoint Gennady Mikhailovich Shapovalov as commander of the ground forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine," the document says.

Previously, this position of commander of the ground forces was held by Mikhail Drapaty.

Zelensky appointed Drapaty commander of the country's joint forces on June 3. This, as the Ukrainian leader later explained, would allow Dropaty to focus solely on combat issues.
