Bloomberg has learned of Spain's refusal to raise defense spending to 5% of GDP

Spain rejected the idea of NATO to increase defense spending to 5% of the country's gross domestic product (GDP). This was reported by Bloomberg on June 19.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez disagreed with the 5% target, calling it "unreasonable" and "counterproductive," the newspaper writes.
It is noted that the prime minister proposed to increase defense spending to 2.1% of GDP, but faced pressure from the opposition.
According to Bloomberg, Sanchez sent a letter to the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance, Mark Rutte, in which he indicated that he would oppose the size of defense spending proposed by the alliance.
Yle TV and radio company reported on June 7 that representatives of Finnish parties in opposition opposed the government's plans to increase defense spending to 5% of GDP. In their opinion, due to the growth of military spending, the social security sector may suffer.
