The topic of medicine and health is one of the central topics at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in 2025 (SPIEF-2025). On June 18, scientists said that advanced technologies are now returning all the possibilities of a full life to patients, and Russia is getting closer to drug sovereignty.

It is noted that domestic prosthetics technologies are currently at such a level that they even allow you to practice motocross. The next step is bionic prosthetics, which not only restore the functions of real hands and feet, but also add new ones.

"Nothing prevents such a prosthesis from being equipped with additional functionality. Five fingers, and why not six, why not some kind of replaceable tool or something that a person can use in their operational activities, control the same drone or operate a crane," said Vsevolod Belousov, Director General of the Federal Center for Brain and Neurotechnology of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency (FMBA) of Russia.

As emphasized by Maria Vorontsova, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Deputy Director of the Lomonosov Moscow State University for Science, leading researcher at the National Research Institute of Endocrinology of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, neurotechnologies allow recording and transmitting to external devices the functional state of the human brain and its central nervous system.

"The patient can control all the computer's capabilities with his eyes, just as you and I can control our hands on the keyboard with the mouse," said Konstantin Shelepin, director of the Institute of Cognitive Sciences and Neurotechnology at the V. P. Serbsky National Research Medical Center of the Russian Ministry of Health.

The SPIEF 2025 also hosts the Drug Safety Forum, which, according to Russian Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko, has been largely achieved through its own production of medicines.

In March, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin announced that by 2036 Russia could take a leading position in the field of bioeconomics. According to him, the Russian Federation has huge potential, as well as significant volumes and a wide variety of biological resources, which creates a significant competitive advantage.
