European countries may consider sending troops to Ukraine without the participation of the United States. This was reported on June 18 by The Guardian newspaper.

"European leaders must realize that they are living in debt, as the focus of U.S. security inexorably shifts towards countering China," the publication says.

As noted by "Gazeta.En", Europe needs to prepare for the day when it will have to act without the help of the United States. As noted in the publication, the need for this may arise after the end of the conflict in Ukraine and the possible deployment of NATO forces there.

At the same time, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said on May 17 that sending military personnel from NATO or the European Union to Ukraine was not being considered. He also added that the discussion about troops in Ukraine is currently completely "beyond any political reality."

Later, on May 21, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that Warsaw was not going to send troops to Ukraine, and the matter was finally closed. However, he added that Poland faces the task of organizing a center for the transfer of weapons and other assistance to Ukraine.
