Ukraine has begun implementing a deal with the United States on minerals, allowing the development of a large lithium deposit in the Kirovohrad region. This was reported by The New York Times on June 16, citing sources in the Ukrainian government.

"The government has agreed to start developing recommendations for the opening of tenders for companies to extract the Dobra lithium deposit in central Ukraine," the publication says.

It is clarified that by such actions Kiev is trying to show the administration of US President Donald Trump the opportunity to quickly achieve tangible results from the deal.

According to the newspaper, a consortium of investors may become participants in the trade, which includes the American company TechMet and a friend of the American leader, entrepreneur Ronald Lauder.

On June 4, the Verkhovna Rada adopted in final reading amendments to the Budget Code necessary for the implementation of the agreement with the United States in the field of critically important minerals. It is specified that Ukraine's contribution will consist of half of the funds received after the agreement enters into force.
