Israel does not rule out the possibility of developing such a scenario in which the country will attempt to assassinate Iran's supreme leader Ali Khamenei. This was announced on June 16 by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

"This is (the assassination of the supreme leader of Iran. — Ed.) will not lead to an escalation of the conflict. This will lead to an end to the conflict," the ABC News channel quoted him as saying.

Netanyahu also said he would not allow the resumption of negotiations on Iran's nuclear program. According to him, during the discussions, Tehran will allegedly continue to develop nuclear weapons.

On June 14, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported that Israel does not rule out the possibility of removing Iran's supreme leader. Responding to a question from the WSJ, an Israeli official said that the Ayatollah is "not an inviolable" target for Israeli strikes.

The day before, on June 13, Israel had attacked Iran and declared a state of emergency. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the purpose of the military operation is to strike at Iran's nuclear infrastructure. In response, Iran launched several waves of missile attacks.
