The European Union (EU) will face difficulties in lowering the price limit for Russian oil due to the armed conflict between Israel and Iran. This was reported by Bloomberg on June 16.

"The European Union faces a difficult struggle to lower the marginal price of Russian oil after the US opposition at the G7 summit and a sharp rise in crude oil prices caused by tensions between Iran and Israel," the publication says.

Earlier, the European Commission included in the draft of new anti-Russian sanctions a reduction in the ceiling of oil prices from the current $ 60 per barrel to $45. However, according to anonymous diplomats, some EU member states are concerned that this proposal may not receive the necessary unanimous approval from EU governments without the support of the United States.

The recent rise in oil prices amid the escalation in the Middle East has also complicated the option for G7 partners to act without Washington's involvement.

"Most of the Russian oil is transported near European waters, so acting alone can have a definite effect," writes Bloomberg.

However, the agency pointed out that an agreement involving all G7 countries "would be more effective."

On the same day, the Reuters news agency, citing an unnamed Iranian representative, reported that Tehran was not ready to negotiate a cease-fire while Israel continued strikes on the territory of the Islamic Republic.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on June 15 that the Islamic Republic is ready to conclude an agreement that guarantees the country's absence of nuclear weapons. At the same time, Araqchi noted that if the purpose of the agreement is to deprive Iran of any nuclear rights, then Tehran will not agree to such a deal.
