The Interior Ministry denied information about the development of a new passport design of the Russian Federation

Reports about the development of a new passport design for a citizen of the Russian Federation do not correspond to reality. This was announced on June 16 by the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation Irina Volk.

"Information about the new passport design of a citizen of the Russian Federation has been published in the media and Telegram channels. In this regard, we clarify that these messages are not true," she wrote in her Telegram channel.

Volk stressed that the Interior Ministry, like other authorities, had not developed a new passport appearance to replace the current one. In addition, the Agency has not received any legislative initiatives on this topic.

"At the same time, the Ministry, as part of its ongoing work, is working on improving the form factor of the passport and enhancing its protection," the Interior Ministry representative added.

On June 15, the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced the amount of the fine for the illegal seizure of the Russian passport. According to the agency, accepting a passport as collateral entails a warning or an administrative fine, the amount of which, in accordance with clause 2 of Article 19.17 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation ("Illegal seizure of a citizen's identity document (passport) or acceptance of a citizen's identity document (passport) as collateral") is 100 rubles.
