The IAEA reported damage to four buildings at a nuclear facility in Iran.


Four buildings at the nuclear facility in Isfahan, Iran, were damaged as a result of an Israeli attack. This was announced on June 16 by the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi.
"Four buildings were damaged at the nuclear facility in Isfahan as a result of the attack on Friday (June 13 — Ed.): the central chemical laboratory, the uranium conversion plant, the fuel production plant for the Tehran reactor and the UF4 metal processing plant under construction, which was under construction," Grossi said on the website. Grossi clarified that no damage had been recorded at other nuclear facilities, including the Fordo fuel enrichment plant, the Khondaba heavy water reactor under construction, and the Bushehr nuclear power plant. The Tehran research reactor was also not damaged.
The head of the IAEA expressed gratitude for the cooperation and exchange of information from the Iranian authorities. He stressed that timely provision of technical data is critically important for assessing possible consequences and organizing international assistance in the event of a radiation threat.
"The Agency is present and will be present in Iran. Safeguards inspections in Iran will continue as soon as security conditions permit, as required by Iran's obligations under the Treaty on the Non—Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT)," Grossi said.
On the same day, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Bagai said that the country continues to fulfill its obligations under the NPT and opposes the presence of nuclear weapons in the Middle East. However, he also said that the Iranian Foreign Ministry is in coordination with the country's parliament on the issue of consideration by Iranian deputies of Tehran's withdrawal from the treaty on the Non-Proliferation of nuclear weapons.
