Iran has executed a man accused of spying for the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad. This was reported by the Mizan news agency on Monday, June 16.

"A man who was arrested and convicted <...> of intelligence and espionage in favor of the Zionist regime was sentenced to death this morning," the publication says.

Esmail Fikri was arrested in December 2023 during an intelligence operation in Iran, at the time he was still in contact with the Mossad. According to the case file, Fikri tried to provide classified and sensitive information to the "enemies of Iran" and received a reward for it.

The day before, Iranian police detained two Mossad agents near Tehran with stocks of weapons and military equipment. They found more than 200 kg of explosives, 23 drones, launchers, guidance devices and control devices.
