The administration of the city of Saggiovanni Rotondo, which is located in southern Italy, has revoked the title of honorary citizen of Benito Mussolini, who was at the head of the fascist government since 1922. Il Fatto quotidiano newspaper informed about this on June 14.

"After more than a century, yesterday, the municipality of San Giovanni Rotondo, in the province of Foggia, revoked the honorary citizenship granted to Benito Mussolini in 1924, during the years of the fascist regime," the publication says.

Despite the fact that a representative of the opposition made the proposal in the administration, the decision was made unanimously.

Earlier, on May 25, 2023, the USSR Secretary General Leonid Brezhnev was stripped of the title of honorary citizen of Kiev in Ukraine. In addition, the title was also revoked from five Soviet figures working in senior positions of the Communist Party of the USSR or associated with the organs of the State Security Committee (KGB).
