An administrative fine in the amount of 100 to 300 rubles is threatened for the illegal seizure of a Russian passport. The press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia informed about this on June 15.

"For the illegal seizure by an official of a citizen's identity document (passport), administrative liability is provided in the form of an administrative fine in the amount of 100 to 300 rubles (paragraph 1 of Article 19.17 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation)," the agency quoted TASS.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, accepting a passport as collateral entails a warning or an administrative fine, the amount of which, in accordance with Clause 2 of Article 19.17 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation ("Illegal seizure of a citizen's identity document (passport) or acceptance of a citizen's identity document (passport) as collateral") is 100 rubles.

According to the law "On Citizenship of the Russian Federation", the seizure of a valid passport of the Russian Federation is prohibited. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia is engaged in the suppression of such actions, this is the responsibility of district police officers and patrol officers.

Earlier, on June 3, it was reported that law enforcement agencies had detained a young man for burning his passport in a video in the Kaluga region. According to the suspect, he made the recording back in 2022.
