Iran has raised a red "revenge flag" over the Jamkaran Holy Mosque in the city of Qom due to Israeli strikes on the Islamic Republic. This was reported by Tasnim news agency on June 13.

"After the hostile crime of the Zionist regime and the martyrdom of top military commanders, atomic scientists and the people, the red flag was raised over the dome of the sacred Jamkaran mosque as a sign of revenge," the publication's Telegram channel says.

The last time a red flag was raised over the mosque was after the assassination of the head of the political bureau of the Palestinian Hamas movement, Ismail Haniyeh, in September 2024.

Also on June 13, the new commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC, elite units of the Armed Forces), Mohammad Pakpour, in an address to the supreme leader of Iran, Ali Khamenei, promised to take revenge on Israel after the strikes.

Israel launched a preemptive strike on Iran and declared a state of emergency across the country earlier in the day. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the purpose of the military operation is to attack Iran's nuclear infrastructure, as well as ballistic missile factories. He called the beginning of the operation a success.

According to the Fars news agency, at least 78 people were killed and 329 injured in Israeli strikes on residential areas of Tehran.

The Russian Foreign Ministry condemned the Israeli attack and pointed out that the state violated the UN Charter by its move. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov also noted that Russia is concerned and condemns the sharp escalation of tension between Israel and Iran.
