At about 3:00 a.m. Moscow time, a siren sounded in Israel, all residents were asked to bring food, water and everything necessary to spend several hours in the shelter, but in the morning there was a calm atmosphere. Boris Volovik, a Russian, told Izvestia about this on June 13.

"At about 3:00 a.m., a siren sounded across the country. This time, the siren was not to warn of an attack, but to warn that the rules of the game had changed. We need to be prepared for a retaliatory strike by Iran, a powerful strike and the fact that you will need to stay in shelters not for 10 minutes, as usual, but perhaps for many hours," Volovik said.

According to him, the residents were asked to take all the necessary things with them to spend several hours in the shelter. The source noted that Israel's military operation was planned in advance, and Iran was retaliating.

"Everything is working well <...> it was announced in advance at night that educational institutions would not work, enterprises, except for some super necessary ones, would not work. But by about 8:00 [Moscow time], I already saw people in cafes, open shops, and so on," he said.

Volovik stressed that civilians have long been treating the situation without panic, and shelters are within walking distance.

"We go in, we sit out our 10 minutes. And we're moving on to a normal life," he concluded.

Israel launched a preemptive strike on Iran and declared a state of emergency across the country earlier in the day. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the purpose of the military operation is to attack Iran's nuclear infrastructure, as well as ballistic missile factories. He called the beginning of the operation a success.

According to the Fars news agency, at least 78 people were killed and 329 injured in Israeli strikes on residential areas of Tehran.

The Russian Foreign Ministry condemned Israel's unprovoked attack and pointed out that the state violated the UN Charter by its move. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov also noted that Russia is concerned and condemns the sharp escalation of tension between Israel and Iran.
