The UN Security Council will hold an emergency meeting due to Israeli strikes on Iran, and a report from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is expected. This was announced on June 13 by the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the organization.

"The UN Security Council will convene an extraordinary meeting today in connection with the Israeli attack on Iran," the Telegram channel said.

The permanent mission added that a report on the state of nuclear facilities in this country is expected from the IAEA during the meeting. The meeting starts at 22.00 Moscow time.

Israel launched a preemptive strike on Iran and declared a state of emergency across the country earlier in the day. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the purpose of the military operation is to attack Iran's nuclear infrastructure, as well as ballistic missile factories. He called the beginning of the operation a success.

Later, Iranian President Masoud Peseshkian said that the Iranian Army would respond to Israeli strikes on the territory of the Islamic Republic, after which Tel Aviv would regret what it had done. He called on Iranians to maintain unity and solidarity so that the country could face this difficult moment "as courageously as possible."

According to the Fars news agency, at least 78 people were killed and 329 injured in Israeli strikes on residential areas of Tehran.

The Russian Foreign Ministry condemned Israel's unprovoked attack and pointed out that the state violated the UN Charter by its move. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov also noted that Russia is concerned and condemns the sharp escalation of tension between Israel and Iran.
