Estonian President approves withdrawal from anti-personnel mine ban Convention


Estonian President Alar Karis has approved the parliament's decision to withdraw the country from the Ottawa Convention, which prohibits the use of anti-personnel mines. This was announced on June 13 by the ERR Broadcasting Corporation.
"Estonian President Alar Karis has announced a law on withdrawal from the Ottawa Convention prohibiting the use of anti—personnel mines," the publication's Telegram channel says.
Earlier, the Estonian Parliament adopted a law on the country's withdrawal from the Ottawa Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-personnel Mines and on Their Destruction.
On April 24, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the Baltic states' statements about withdrawing from the Ottawa Convention were linked to benefits for NATO. According to her, these states are aimed at developing cooperation with manufacturers of antipersonnel mines from the United States.
