The appeal of the former Romanian presidential candidate Calin Georgescu, who is under judicial control, was rejected. This was reported on June 13 by the TV channel Étirile Pro TV.

"The court rejects as unfounded the complaint of the accused Georgescu Kaelin against the decision of the prosecutor's Office at the Supreme Court of Cassation and Justice to extend the preventive measure in the form of judicial control," the statement said.

It is reported that this decision is final.

"This is blatant political persecution, incompatible with the law and common sense," Georgescu commented on the court's decision.

According to him, this decision is proof of the abuses of the current Romanian authorities.

The first round of the Romanian presidential election was held on November 24, 2024. According to official data, independent candidate Calin Georgescu was in the lead with 22.94% of the vote. Elena Lasconi, leader of the opposition Union for the Salvation of Romania party, has 19.17% of the vote. The second round was scheduled to take place on December 8, as none of the candidates was able to gain more than 50%.

On December 6, it was reported that the Constitutional Court of Romania annulled the results of the first round of the presidential election. It was clarified that the final decision was made following the results of the court session held that day.

In turn, Georgescu said that the decision of the Constitutional Court of Romania to annul the results of the first round of elections is an undermining of democracy and an "official coup d'etat."
