Chinese researcher Chengxuan Han was arrested at the Detroit airport on charges of smuggling biological materials and making false statements to federal authorities. This was reported by The New York Post on Monday, June 9.

"Han was arrested on Sunday after landing at Detroit Metropolitan Airport on a flight from Shanghai, according to charging documents. She was charged with smuggling goods into the United States and making false statements," the article says.

This is the third arrest of Chinese scientists accused of smuggling biological materials in recent weeks, the newspaper said.

Earlier, on May 15, Russian scientist Ksenia Petrova, who was detained for importing frog embryos into the United States, was placed under arrest. It is clarified that at first Petrova denied that she was carrying biological material in her luggage, but then allegedly confessed to the contrary. She also stated that she did not know about the requirement to declare frog embryos upon entry, but messages were found on her phone refuting these words.
