The US Department of State plans to introduce an artificial intelligence (AI)-based chatbot to form commissions responsible for annual promotions and personnel changes. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on Tuesday, June 10.

"StateChat, an internal chatbot running using Palantir and Microsoft technologies, will be used to select diplomatic service staff to participate in the selection commissions for diplomatic mission staff," the material says.

The Councils, whose role is regulated by the Diplomatic Service Act of 1980, play an important role in the State Department's decision-making, through which diplomats and others move from one professional level to another. By law, councils must include "a significant number of women and members of minorities."

Earlier, on April 20, the New York Times, citing a draft document, reported that US President Donald Trump may sign a decree that implies a reduction in the activities of the State Department and US embassies in Africa. It was clarified that a radical restructuring of the State Department is expected, including the liquidation of almost all of its operations on the continent.
