- Punishment for undeclared transportation of cigarettes and alcohol will be mitigated
Fines for undeclared transportation of tobacco and alcohol will be mitigated. Such a bill of the Ministry of Finance was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers, government sources told Izvestia.
The bill proposes to amend the articles of the Administrative Code on liability for non-declaration or false declaration of goods, said Vladimir Gruzdev, Chairman of the Board of the Association of Lawyers of Russia.
Currently, declaring goods entails an administrative fine for individuals in the amount of half to twice the value of the goods, but in the amount of at least 1 thousand rubles. The amendments will add exceptions for certain types of imported products. For the import of tobacco products, the limit is 250 cigarettes, for alcoholic beverages — 10 liters of drinks.
"Exceeding this limit will entail a fine in the amount of five thousand to 20 thousand rubles, and may also be accompanied by confiscation of infringing items. A person (declarant) may be released from administrative responsibility for unreliable declaration of goods if the error was revealed by the declarant himself before the goods were released," Gruzdev said.
