Issuance of car loans in Russia halved in May

In May 2025, 90.9 thousand car loans were issued in Russia. This is 44.5% less than in the last month of last spring, Sergey Tselikov, director of the Autostat analytical agency, said in his Telegram channel.

According to him, the main decrease was due to loans for used cars, the volume of which decreased by 65.5% to 33.3 thousand units.

At the same time, the decrease in car loans for new cars turned out to be significantly less — by 15% (57.6 thousand units). At the same time, a slight increase was even recorded compared to April (from 56.35 thousand loans).

The average loan rate for new cars increased by 0.2 percentage points to 13.2% by April. As for used cars, the rate remained at the same level — 26.5%.

The total volume of disbursements in May amounted to 116 billion rubles, which is almost half (-49.6%) of the same indicator last year (229.7 billion rubles), the analyst added.

Earlier in the day, the analyst said that over the past four years, the price dynamics for popular models of foreign cars in Russia has been 1.5 times faster than the price growth for Lada cars. And their average cost is now twice as high as it was at the beginning of 2021.
