The Ministry of Emergency Situations told about extinguishing wildfires in Transbaikalia

The area of fires in the Trans-Baikal Territory was recorded at 2.5 million hectares. This was reported on June 9 in the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia.

"Currently, 554 out of 573 fires recorded on 2.5 million hectares have been extinguished in the region. It is planned to cope with the remaining 19 on 347 thousand hectares in a week and a half. There are five fires operating near populated areas, they do not pose a threat to housing," the press service of the department said.

It is specified that 90% of the fire area is in the Khiloksky, Chita and Uletovsky districts. Two Be-200ChS and Il-76 aircraft, an Mi-8 helicopter, and 9 Russian Railways fire fighting trains are on duty in the region.

In addition to the hot weather, there is a lack of moisture after a snowy winter, experts say.

On June 7, the Ministry of Natural Resources of Transbaikalia reported that eight large fires had been localized in the region in Borzinsky, Kyrinsky, Tungokochensky, Khiloksky and Chita districts with a total area of more than 336 thousand hectares.
