At the upcoming negotiations between the United States and China, Washington intends to ask for an increase in exports of rare earth metals. This was announced on June 8 by Kevin Hassett, head of the National Economic Council at the White House, in an interview with CBS.

"These exports of critically important minerals were carried out at a rate that, as you know, is higher than it was, but not as high as we believe. We agreed in Geneva," Hassett said.

He also noted that during the meeting of the two delegations, which is scheduled for June 9 in London, US President Donald Trump expressed a desire to sign a contract with China with the condition of taking into account the economic interests of both countries so that trade in rare earths and magnets needed for high-tech industries would be conducted as before.

The official representative of the Ministry of Commerce of China, He Yongqian, said on June 5 that an increase in US tariffs on steel and aluminum imports to 50% would harm the United States industry and disrupt the stability of international industrial supply chains.
