NATO military exercises in the Baltic Sea may provoke a conflict with Russia. This was reported on June 8 by the Italian edition of Il Fatto Quotidiano (IFQ).

"In 2025, the annual BALTOPS military exercises, which NATO has been conducting since 1971, coincide with other exercises that Russia is conducting on the same days and on the same part of the sea," the publication says.

According to the newspaper, this coincidence risks leading to an escalation in the region. The authors of the article noted that in recent years, the Baltic Sea has become a place of frequent provocations, and the exercises may become another round of confrontation.

On June 1, the German newspaper Bild also reported that the military exercises of Russia and NATO, which will take place simultaneously in the Baltic Sea, may cause an increase in tension in the region. At the same time, naval expert Johannes Peters clarified that the Russian state is acting legally by deploying its units in the Baltic Sea.
