The project for a new section of the Sokolnicheskaya metro line has begun to be prepared in Moscow. Vladimir Yefimov, Deputy Mayor of the capital for Urban Planning Policy, told about this on June 6.

He specified that the 8.5 km long section will include the MGSU and Yaroslavskaya stations. Currently, the nearest one for residents of the Yaroslavl region is VDNH on the Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya line.

"Currently, the access time to the station during rush hours is up to 30 minutes. The extension of the line in the north-east direction will significantly improve the urban transport infrastructure, creating the most convenient and fastest routes for citizens," Yefimov is quoted as saying on the website of the mayor of Moscow.

According to the deputy mayor of the capital for urban planning policy, the new line will run under the Losiny Ostrov National Park, without affecting its territory.

Yuliana Knyazhevskaya, Chairman of the Moscow Architecture Department, stressed that the extension of the line to the northeast had not occurred for 35 years. She said that new stations are urgently needed to improve transport accessibility in the area.

On April 21, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced that in 2030, about 90% of trains in the Moscow Metro will consist of new-generation railcars. He recalled that the first Moscow train went out eight years ago on the Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya line, which became "a new stage in the development of the Moscow metro." The purple line of the Moscow subway is one of the most in demand, with about 930,000 trips per day.
