Chinese car brands have filled more than half of the Russian market

In May, Chinese brands accounted for more than half of the Russian new passenger car market, accounting for 54%. Sergey Tselikov, director of the Autostat analytical agency, told about this on June 6 in his Telegram channel.

According to him, at the end of spring, Russian brands got almost a third of the market (33.1%). Belarus (represented by the Belgee brand) accounts for 4%, while Japan and Germany account for 2.7% each. The share of Korean brands decreased to 1.3%.

Sales of car brands from China, Russia and South Korea fell in May by 32% year-on-year (to 49.2 thousand, 30.2 thousand units and 1.2 thousand units, respectively). The German brand market, on the contrary, grew by 31% (to 2.4 thousand units).

The analyst noted that in May, 86% of cars were purchased by individuals. In April, this figure was 84%.

By the end of May 2025, 91.2 thousand new passenger cars were sold in Russia, which is 28.3% less than in the same month last year. Lada accounted for 28% of the market at the end of spring, which in quantitative terms amounts to 25.6 thousand copies sold.

On June 4, it was reported that Lada Granta led the Russian car market among all models in May. In the last month of spring, 12 thousand Granta machines were sold, including those produced on its basis. This is 35.1% less than a year ago. Also in May, the Lada Niva Legend model entered the top three best-selling crossovers and SUVs in Russia (the SUV segment) for the first time in 13 months.
