In the first reading, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a bill providing for the voluntary mobilization of men over the age of 60. This was reported on June 4 by the Ukrainian online publication Strana.ua»

According to the initiative, senior citizens will be able to sign contracts for one year with a probation period of two months, as well as with the possibility of termination of the contract. It is indicated that the country's Ministry of Defense did not support the project and offered to send elderly men to non-combat positions with experience.

At the same time, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine announced an increasing risk of corruption due to such a mobilization decision. In addition, the agency expressed doubt that citizens of this age will be able to fully fulfill the terms of the contract and combat missions at the front.

On May 26, it was reported that the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) was throwing female prisoners onto the line of combat amid a shortage of personnel. It was clarified that after heavy losses in various directions, the Ukrainian army is experiencing an acute shortage of personnel.

On May 21, Verkhovna Rada deputy Georgy Mazurashu said that only 5-6% of Ukrainian citizens who were forcibly mobilized into the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine can more or less perform their assigned combat tasks. According to him, the continuation of forced mobilization will not help the Ukrainian army in fulfilling its tasks.
