The average cost of a new car in Russia in May 2025 decreased for the second month in a row and returned to the level of January values. <url> Assessment experts told Izvestia about this on June 4.
In May of this year, the average price of a new Chinese—made car was 3.62 million rubles, while for a domestic car it was 1.56 million rubles. These figures are higher than last year, but the difference is only 4% for Chinese brands and 9% for Russian brands, analysts estimate. The average cost of cars that are not officially represented on the Russian market continues to grow. In May, it reached 9.24 million rubles, an increase of almost 931 thousand rubles over the year.
Among the regions, the leaders in reducing the average cost were the Nizhny Novgorod Region (-7%; 2.85 million rubles), the Bryansk Region (-6.4%; 2.46 million rubles) and St. Petersburg, including the Leningrad Region (-5.5%; 3 million rubles). The average cost of a new car increased in the Saratov Region (7.3%; 3.03 million rubles), the Republic of Bashkortostan (+5.3%; 2.11 million rubles) and the Krasnodar Territory (+2%; 3.46 million rubles). In Moscow, the average cost remains the highest in the country, reaching 5.27 million rubles in March, which is 0.5% lower than in April.
By the end of May, the top five models officially presented on the Russian market, whose average cost decreased the most compared to the previous month, were: JAC JS6 (-2.3%; 2.72 million rubles), Chery Tiggo 7L (-2%; 2.98 million rubles), Solaris KRX (-2%; 2.37 million rubles), Baic X7 (-2%; 1.88 million rubles) and Chery Tiggo 9 (-2%; 4.88 million rubles).
Premium models were the most expensive in May, but the increase in average cost was insignificant (less than 2%). These include the electric Voyah Free (6.16 million rubles), as well as the GAC GS8 (4.67 million rubles) and Hongqi HS5 (3.68 million rubles) crossovers.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that by the end of May 2025, 91.2 thousand new passenger cars were sold in Russia, which is 28.3% less than in the same month last year. Lada accounted for 28% of the market at the end of spring, which in quantitative terms amounts to 25.6 thousand copies sold.
