The UK believes that it supposedly has a chance to weaken the Russian Federation, so it is arming itself and preparing for an open confrontation. Alexander Borodai, deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots, said this in an interview with Izvestia on June 2.

He recalled that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer's statement on the country's armament was announced on the day of negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. According to him, the Russian Federation provides all possible assistance and support to efforts to resolve the Ukrainian crisis.

"The UK really does not want an end to the conflict (in Ukraine. They really like the idea of this conflict, which, in their opinion, weakens Russia. Therefore, they will do everything to ensure that this conflict does not end. They believe that they now have a historic chance to "finish off" Russia. Therefore, they are already preparing for such an idea themselves, they are preparing for an open confrontation," the deputy said.

On June 2, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced the beginning of the country's preparations for war. He said that the main goal of the British armed forces at the moment is the transition to combat readiness.

On the same day, the head of the Federation Council's information policy commission, Alexei Pushkov, said that the British authorities were planning to wage a long "ice war" with Russia. At the same time, they cannot reach the level of the "big geopolitical three" — the United States, Russia and China, the senator noted.
