US President Donald Trump's policy of exerting "maximum pressure" on Iran has been suspended. This was reported on June 1 by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

"White House press Secretary Caroline Leavitt has issued a directive to suspend all new sanctions activities against Iran. <...> President Trump's 'maximum pressure' campaign is now stuck in place," the newspaper writes, citing a source.

It is noted that the new policy of the American administration is aimed at analyzing potential restrictions against Tehran "in the light of sensitive nuclear negotiations."

The New York Times reported on May 31 that the United States had sent Iran its first official proposal for a nuclear deal. The document calls for an end to uranium enrichment and proposes the creation of a temporary association of Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United States for the production of nuclear energy.
