The State Election Commission has confirmed the victory of Karol Nawrocki, a candidate from the opposition Law and Justice party, in the second round of the Polish presidential election. The election commission announced this on June 2.
"The State Election Commission declares that in the repeat vote held on June 2, of the two candidates for president of Poland, more votes were received <...> and Karol Tadeusz Nawrocki was elected president of Poland," the newspaper quotes Gazeta.pl Chairman of the National Election Commission Sylvestre Marciniak.
It is specified that Karol Nawrocki won 50.89% of the vote, and his rival, the mayor of Warsaw and candidate from the ruling "Civic Coalition" Rafal Trzaskowski, won 49.11% of the vote. More than 10.6 million citizens voted for Navrotsky, and about 10.2 million voted for Trzaskowski.
In total, almost 532,000 citizens voted in the elections, which amounted to 71.63%.
"The voter turnout was the highest since 1990 — 71.63%," Marciniak concluded.
On June 2, according to the exit poll portal, Trzaskowski was in the lead in the Polish presidential election with 50.3% of the vote. Navrotsky, supported by his opposition party, received 49.7%. According to preliminary estimates, the turnout in the second round was 72.8%, which is almost 6% higher than in the first vote.
