Tooth enamel is sensitive to what a person consumes. About which products wash out minerals from the enamel, and which strengthen it, "Gazeta.Ru" was told by Alyona Kopetskaya, an assistant at the Department of Therapeutic Dentistry at the N. I. Pirogov Medical University.

According to the expert, in order to preserve dental health, it is necessary to limit the consumption of sugary drinks, confectionery, fruits and other products containing acid or sugar.

"Acid and sugar can contribute to the demineralization of enamel, that is, increase its porosity. And porous enamel is less resistant to bacteria," Kopetskaya explained.

According to the orthodontist, sugar enhances the destructive effect of pathogenic microbes in the oral cavity. This contributes to the formation of plaque. A large amount of it can increase the number of bacteria and enhance their effects.

To get rid of these germs and maintain the health of the enamel, the expert recommended using pastes and mouthwashes with fluoride. Foods fortified with calcium and phosphorus, such as cottage cheese, fish and cheese, will benefit your teeth.

"Minerals from such foods can form dense "crystals" that integrate into the enamel structure and increase its strength," Kopetskaya said.

Earlier, on May 31, Vyacheslav Minko, a dental surgeon at Dr.Minko Dental Clinic, dispelled myths about the benefits and harms of dental products. There are foods that are good for teeth (vegetables, nuts, dairy products) and that harm them (sweets, pastries, carbonated drinks), however, according to the expert, it is important to take into account some nuances.
