Even with regular brushing, many people experience tooth decay, gum inflammation, and bad breath. Olga Chepurkova, a doctor with 26 years of experience and speaker of REVIXAN, told Izvestia on May 5 that the problem lies in the wrong approach to oral hygiene.

The main mistake, according to the expert, is the substitution of concepts. Many people mistakenly believe that using mouthwashers, pastes, and sprays is enough to maintain cleanliness. However, only three tools provide real hygiene: a regular toothbrush, a monopuckle brush, and interdental brushes. All other tools are only auxiliary and should be selected individually by a specialist.

The doctor paid special attention to the cleaning technique. She stated that about 80% of patients do not know how to properly remove biofilm, a bacterial plaque that becomes the main cause of gum problems.

"Without an indication of biofilm — plaque staining — it is impossible to understand where the teeth are really cleaned and where they are not. The average time required for proper hygiene is from 15 to 30 minutes per day. Unfortunately, most of them are limited to two minutes," the specialist noted.

According to her, nutrition also plays an important role. The predominance of soft, refined foods in the diet reduces the natural cleansing of teeth. The dentist recommends eating hard vegetables and fruits more often — apples, carrots, celery. It is also important to maintain a water balance: dry mouth creates favorable conditions for the reproduction of pathogenic bacteria.

To achieve the best result, the professor advises combining traditional care methods with modern technologies. The use of irrigators, plaque indicators and special caps for photodynamic therapy helps to strengthen the protection of the oral cavity. However, the expert emphasized that these devices do not replace, but only complement basic hygiene.

"Clean teeth can't hurt. Well-organized oral care will not only eliminate unpleasant odors, but also keep your teeth healthy for decades. The main thing is not to postpone a visit to a specialist, because prevention is always easier and cheaper than treatment," Chepurkova advised.

Earlier, on April 25, Sabit Aliyev, a dental surgeon and chief physician of the Russian Dental Implantation Center dental clinic network, told Izvestia what contraindications there may be to the installation of braces. Temporary restrictions for the installation of braces can be called reasons that can be cured or that may disappear over time.
