On Saturday, May 31, in the Vygonichsky district of the Bryansk region, the structures of the automobile bridge collapsed on the Klimov – Moscow passenger train. The Moscow Railway (MZhD) attributed the railway accident to "illegal interference" in the operation of transport. On June 2, 3 and 4, the Bryansk region declared mourning for the victims of the crash. Izvestia reports that it is known about the incident by this hour.

The collapse of the bridge on the Klimov – Moscow train — what happened

The incident occurred on the evening of May 31 in the area of one of the sections of the A240 highway. The bridge with several cars on it collapsed at the moment when the Klimov – Moscow passenger train was passing under it, the governor of the Bryansk region, Alexander Bogomaz, said in his Telegram channel. As a result, some of the train cars derailed.

Emergency services promptly arrived at the scene of the accident. As indicated in the Telegram channel of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, fire and rescue units arrived at the scene. And the emergency mobile equipment "Light Tower" was delivered to work at night. The staff of the Ministry of Emergency Situations directed all forces to search and unblocking of people and almost immediately began to dismantle fragments of the train. In total, about 180 specialists and 60 pieces of equipment were involved in the elimination of the consequences of the railway accident.

The Moscow Interregional Transport Prosecutor's Office announced the start of an investigation into the collapse of a bridge with cars on a passenger train in the Bryansk region. The Telegram channel of the Russian Ministry of Transport clarified that a joint operational headquarters was established on the basis of the Situation Center with Russian Railways and the Ministry of Emergency Situations. The center is also in touch with the regional authorities.

Rosavtodor reported that in the Bryansk region, after the collapse of the bridge, traffic was temporarily blocked on the A-240 highway section. The detour is organized through the village of Vygonichi. Izvestia publishes footage showing that law enforcement officers completely blocked traffic at the bridge that collapsed onto a passenger train. No one is allowed near the site of the collapse, said Gennady Lisenko, a correspondent for Izvestia.

The official representative of the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia, Svetlana Petrenko, announced the transfer of the investigation into the explosions of bridges in the Bryansk and Kursk regions to the Main Investigation Department, confirming the fact of the explosions. She took control of the investigation of criminal cases initiated on the facts of the incident.The General Prosecutor's Office. Bridge collapse on Klimov – Moscow train — dead and injured

According to the governor of the Bryansk region, as a result of the collapse of the bridge on a passenger train, seven people were killed, 55 were hospitalized, among them four minors. Four victims, including one child, are in serious condition. Izvestia publishes a list of victims.

As Ekaterina, a friend of one of the train conductors, told Izvestia, the driver of the passenger train and his assistant were killed when the bridge collapsed. Another conductor was injured, hitting his head hard, and the conductor herself, Ekaterina's interlocutor, suffered a broken leg. Later, Russian Railways clarified that the driver was killed and nine train crew members were injured and hospitalized.

Bogomaz said that 16 ambulance and disaster medicine teams and buses were working at the site to deliver them to temporary accommodation facilities. Russian Railways informed in its Telegram channel that the passengers of the Klimov - Moscow train were evacuated to the air defense plant, where they were provided with water and food, accompanied by medical teams.

Passengers of the train damaged as a result of the collapse of the bridge were taken to the Bryansk-I railway station and from there a reserve train was transported to the Kievsky railway station in Moscow, where they were met by doctors and psychologists. After the examination, 11 people were hospitalized in medical institutions in Moscow.

A team of specialists from the Federal Center for Disaster Medicine of the Russian Ministry of Health has arrived in Bryansk. The doctors decided to deliver three children, accompanied by their parents and two adults, by emergency vehicles to Moscow hospitals.

A five-month-old baby in serious condition was taken to the Roshal clinic in Moscow by an air ambulance helicopter - the baby was diagnosed with numerous injuries. Later it was reported that a seven-year-old child with a craniocerebral injury and a fractured shoulder had also been admitted there: he and his father were taken in a disaster medicine intensive care unit.

Russian Railways promised to pay 2.2 million rubles to the relatives of the victims. Bogomaz also said that the region will pay 1.5 million each to the families of the victims of the disaster.

Bridge collapse on Klimov – Moscow train — eyewitness testimony

One of the passengers on the Klimov–Moscow train told Izvestia that two bridge pillars had fallen on the locomotive. According to her, as a result, the first car "flew away completely," and the second one overturned. She noted that passengers up to the tenth car received the same injuries.

"Up to the tenth car, everyone has the same injuries. These are the hemorrhages. The guys, of course, who, these machinists, died. The truck was lying there on top of them," the woman shared.

The interviewee added that initially people did not even understand why the train had stopped. She highly appreciated the prompt response to the incident by the staff of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and other emergency services. One of the passengers reported that he helped to provide first aid to the victim with a punctured leg. "A police officer brought medicines <...> Bandaged them, then the ambulance staff helped everyone there," he said.

Restoration work after the collapse of the bridge on the Klimov – Moscow route

Izvestia correspondent Pavel Melnikov said that several Russian Railways repair crews are currently working in the area of the collapse. The Russian Railways press service clarified that three recovery trains, 200 railway workers and rescue personnel were sent to the accident site.

Specialists have removed the cargo truck with the help of a crane and are dismantling fragments of the bridge. Traffic on the highway and railway tracks near the crash site remains paralyzed, but railway and automobile services under the supervision of the Transport Prosecutor's Office are taking measures to resume traffic. The bridge itself cannot be restored — a new one will be built instead, the head of the region said.

The Prosecutor's Office has set up hotlines for rapid response to citizens' complaints. June 2, 3 and 4 have been declared days of mourning in the Bryansk region.
