- The Russian Ambassador to Denmark warned against creating obstacles to navigation in the Baltic

Attacks on Russian oil tankers in the Baltic Sea will be resolutely resisted. This was announced on May 31 by Russian Ambassador to Denmark Vladimir Barbin, commenting on the discussion by the Baltic Sea countries about the possible confiscation of such vessels.
"Attempts at piracy on the high seas against tankers with Russian oil will be suppressed," Barbin said on the diplomatic mission's Telegram channel.
He added that tensions in the Baltic region were the result of the policies of the European Union and NATO seeking to "strangle" Russia with sanctions, including measures against its tanker fleet. He stressed that it is the actions of the West that are exacerbating the situation, although they are trying to shift responsibility for this to Moscow.
According to Barbin, further escalation can be avoided only if Western countries abandon the confrontational course.
The diplomat also warned that the policy of increasing confrontation makes an increase in tension in the Baltic Sea almost inevitable. He stressed that the unhindered passage of ships through the Baltic (Danish) Straits is still guaranteed by international law.
Swedish Justice Minister Gunnar Stremmer said on the same day that the Swedish government had decided to strengthen control measures over foreign vessels passing through the Baltic Sea. It is specified that from July 1, the Swedish Coast Guard and the Swedish Maritime Administration will be able to collect insurance information from ships that not only enter the port, but also pass through Swedish waters or an economic zone.
