Dentist dispelled myths about the benefits and harms of dental products

It is not uncommon to encounter myths and marketing ploys about the benefits of some foods and the harms of others. About what foods should be eaten so as not to harm your teeth, "Gazeta.Ru" was told by VyacheslavMinko, a dentist and surgeon at Dr.Minko Dental Clinic.
According to the doctor, nutrition affects the work of both the whole body and individual organs. There are foods that are good for teeth (vegetables, nuts, dairy products), and that harm them (sweets, pastries, carbonated drinks).
However, there are some exceptions. For example, it is more beneficial for dental health to consume foods fortified with fats.
"Fats are necessary for the body, vitamins cannot be absorbed without them, and metabolism is disrupted. The lack of fats also affects the condition of the gums — they become loose, bleed, and hurt. Therefore, it is better to make a choice in favor of cottage cheese with a fat content of 5-9% and traditional cheese, including them in your diet in the morning or afternoon," the expert shared.
Minko noted that despite the benefits of calcium, its excessive consumption can harm the body.
The doctor dispelled the myth that acidic foods should be completely excluded from the diet for dental health.
"You shouldn't do this, because apples, pineapple, cranberries, blueberries, and blueberries will help our body get valuable vitamins without loading it with extra calories. After an acidic meal, it is recommended to brush your teeth or rinse your mouth — this way the negative effect of acid on tooth enamel will be eliminated," the dentist noted.
The expert drew attention to the snacks. They are necessary for our body, it is important to pay attention to which foods you use as this meal. Just as you need to know the measure in the consumption of sweets, so as not to harm your smile.
"Lollipops are the most harmful to teeth, because in the process of resorption they constantly come into contact with teeth. And a chocolate candy that just needs to be chewed and swallowed does much less harm," the expert concluded.
Earlier, on May 28, Elena Churakina, an endocrinologist and nutritionist at the Sberbank Health medical company, spoke about the benefits of nuts. They contain many minerals necessary for various metabolic processes. For example, phosphorus is needed to maintain the strength of teeth and bones.
