- The Estonian Foreign Ministry announced the termination of negotiations with the Russian Federation on navigation in Narva

The Estonian authorities did not install navigation buoys on the Narva River this year due to the termination of negotiations with Russia on this issue. This was announced on May 30 by the press service of the country's Foreign Ministry.
"Estonia is terminating negotiations with Russia over navigation buoys on the Narva River," the ministry said in a statement posted on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the reason for this decision was Russia's alleged refusal to cooperate on security issues.
The Estonian Foreign Ministry noted that the country remains committed to ensuring border security and coordinating actions with its NATO and European Union (EU) partners.
On May 29, the head of the Estonian Interior Ministry, Igor Taro, announced that if Estonia did not reach an agreement with Russia on the location of navigation buoys on Narva, the republic would place them in its territorial waters on the river. According to Taro, representatives of the European Agency for the Protection of External Borders will monitor the buoys.
