A peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine can be achieved within a year. This was announced on May 30 by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan during a joint press conference with his Ukrainian counterpart Andrei Sibiga in Kiev.

"Either we allow <this conflict> to continue, or we will achieve permanent peace within this year. As a result of our mediation efforts, we can make some progress," Fidan said, the speech was broadcast on the Turkish Foreign Ministry's YouTube channel.

According to the minister, the rapid implementation of the first point of the agreements on the exchange of prisoners proved that the negotiations between Moscow and Kiev can yield substantive results.

He also stressed that the issue of Ukraine's membership in NATO is still being discussed within the alliance.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced on May 28 that the second round of talks between Russia and Ukraine would be held in Istanbul on June 2. In turn, the head of the office of the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, Andrei Ermak, announced Kiev's readiness to hold the next meeting with Russia to resolve the conflict, subject to the provision of a memorandum.
